Project Overview
Led by owner Bradley Evans, Evans Construction rebuilt a residential deck that was more than 50 years old. The team demolished the original structure down to the footings, repoured all concrete piers, and expanded the deck by roughly 400 sq ft to create a safer, larger space for everyday use and gatherings.
Starting Point
- Original deck age: ~50+ years
- Condition warranted full removal to the footings
- Homeowner goal: replace the aging structure and gain significantly more usable space
What We Delivered
- Full demolition to footings and debris removal
- All new concrete piers repoured for a long-term foundation
- Framing and rebuild to accommodate a ~400 sq ft expansion
- Finish work per the homeowner’s selections (deck boards, fascia, railing, steps)
Design Options Presented
To make choices clear and controlled, we offered three deck-board design packages, each covering:
- Color & board shape
- Picture-frame borders & miters
- Fascia & railing styles
- Step design
Result
A larger, safer, and more functional deck—ready for real use. The homeowner’s reaction was immediate and positive; they hosted about 20 people on the new deck right away.

Project Story — From Tear-Down to +~400 Sq Ft Rebuild
The original deck had stood for more than 50 years, and the safest, smartest path was to start over. We demolished the structure down to the footings, cleared the site, and repoured all concrete piers to create a reliable foundation for what came next. With the structure reset, we framed and rebuilt the deck to expand the footprint by roughly 400 sq ft, turning an aging platform into a larger space that’s ready for everyday living and bigger gatherings.
On design, we kept decisions clear and controlled by offering three deck-board design packages. Each covered color and board shape, picture-frame borders and miters, fascia and railing styles, and step design. That menu gave the homeowner a straightforward way to choose the look—and kept the build efficient without surprises.
The result is a larger, safer, and more functional deck that feels ready on day one. The best validation came immediately: the homeowner welcomed about 20 guests onto the new deck right after completion.
Before — What We Walked Into

The existing deck had been in service for more than 50 years. At that age, surface wear and aging connections are expected, but the bigger constraint was structural: the deck could not support the larger footprint the homeowner wanted for hosting and everyday use.
On site, we treated this like any structural reset. Rather than piecemeal repairs, we planned a full removal down to the footings so we could repour every concrete pier and start clean. That approach let us control layout, elevations, and post spacing for the upcoming ~400 sq ft expansion, and it removed any uncertainty tied to the old foundation.
The goal heading into demolition was simple: clear the site safely, document the original conditions, and prepare for new piers that would carry the expanded frame with confidence. With the footprint about to grow, a fresh set of piers was the right call.
After — What Changed & Why It Matters
With the original structure removed and all concrete piers repoured, we rebuilt the deck on a clean, reliable foundation and expanded the footprint by roughly 400 sq ft. The new frame carries the layout the homeowner actually needs—space to move, gather, and use every day.
Finish details followed the selections from the three design packages: the deck boards set the tone; picture-frame borders and miters give the edge a finished look; fascia and railing tie everything together; and steps create a natural path on and off the deck. The end result is a larger, safer, more functional outdoor area that was ready on day one—proven when about 20 people were able to gather on the new deck right away.

Highlights
- Rebuilt on repoured concrete piers for long-term stability
- ~400 sq ft expansion for real hosting space
- Clean board layout with picture-frame borders/miters
- Coordinated fascia, railing, and steps per the homeowner’s selections
- A day-one win: comfortably hosted ~20 guests immediately
What This Means for the Homeowner
This project shows how we approach rebuilds: remove what’s past its service life, reset the structure the right way, and expand with purpose. We demolished the 50-year-old deck to the footings, repoured every concrete pier, and rebuilt with an added ~400 sq ft so the space actually fits how it’s used. The result is a larger, safer deck that was ready on day one—proved when about 20 guests gathered on it immediately after completion.
